Catalonia is on fire! Not just because of the hot weather (well, maybe...), but also because of the sick new releases that emerge out of the region lately. Bands like The Upset, Reconquesta, The Penny Cocks and especially CRIM are taking over by storm. To this list we can now add La Inquisición. The Secret Army-veterans already surprised with their self-titled, demo 7" of last year, but with the release of their brand new EP for Common People Records and Contra Records, "Verdadera Fe", they deliver their first, fatal blow! The demo was good, but with "Verdadera Fe" the band took a few, yet giant, steps forward – resulting in one hell of an EP! Brought with a killer production, La Inquisición's 'real' debut 7" is everything you would expect by these Catalonian vets. Showcasing their rich experience (gained through Ultimo Asalto, Bulldozer BCN, Secret Army etc...), La Inquisición bursts out one cracking tune after another with stacked choruses and a mean, yet very melodic sound, strongly reminding me of the aforementioned CRIM. Packed with a punch, La Inquisición delivers a total of five anthems in their native tongue – a contrary to Secret Army, who's releases were completely in English. Though I barely understand a word of it, it's still a big plus to me as the five tracks, "Verdadera Fe", "Abril", "Iniciados", "Muerte A La Nostalgia" and "Guerra Total", are sung with tremendous power and passion, completing this punk-rock-and-Oi! powerhouse to the boot! If you are a fan of The Gundown, CRIM and of course Secret Army, or excellent, powerful punk in general, La Inquisición's "Verdadera Fe" is an absolute must-have! So do what is right, and pick this one up on either black (400 copies) or limited red (200 copies) vinyl now!
