In 1983, Doug & The Slugz was formed by a group of SoCal teenagers to establish their own unique brand of British-influenced American oi. This was one of the earliest American bands of the genre and the songs on this 7" were originally recorded at Southwest Sound Studios by Devin Thomas between 1983-1985. The original masters were lost or destroyed, so the band went back to Southwest Sound Studios and had Devin Thomas record them again in July 2019. Limited edition hand-numbered out of 325 copies. 2 tracks! SOLD OUT!!!
- Power In Numbers
- Just Another Battle
AMERICAN Oi! REVIEW
Initially released as a limited edition picture disc (250 copies) in North America through LSM Vinyl, Common People Records quickly managed to get an European pressing out of Doug & The Slugz’ latest 45 on black vinyl! 330 copies pressed, the single features two ‘new’ songs - namely “Power In Numbers” and “Just Another Battle”. I write ‘new’, because in reality they’re not. Originally these two tracks were recorded in the mid 80’s, but according to the legend the original masters got either lost or were destroyed - so they had to be re-recorded. And that is exactly what Doug and his Slugz did in the summer of 2018! Now I am not a big fan of ska or ska-ish tracks and that is exactly what the A-side is, a ska-ish tune. Sure, “Power In Numbers” sounds alright, but I highly prefer “Just Another Battle” over on the flipside! Despite being a freshly recorded track, the band definitely contained that vibe of 80’s America in both sound and lyrics which I like - good stuff! Altough there is no variation in colors of vinyl, the record comes in a nice, thick sleeve and includes a small sheet with lyrics, old photo’s and some additional information. With the release of 2018’s “Skinhead Faction” 10” and this 7” I assume all of the old stuff now has been re-released or re-recorded, so hopefully it is now time for some new noise! A nice release by Common People Records nonetheless!
