By the time I’m writing this I’ll be in Catalonia next week, sigh seeing, enjoying the sunny weather at the beach and exploring the nightlife, but before I head over to Barcelona... this great city headed over to me when the brand new 10”, entitled “Barcelona”, from Acero Condal was delivered into my mailbox earlier this week! Acero Condal already impressed on the “Chaos In Catalonia” compilation that was released by Common People Records, just as this 10”. I didn’t really look any further into the band, but when I did some research for this review I found out their actual debut dates back to 2007 and was a four track 12” maxi-EP called “El Camí De Les Armes” on KTF Records. Never heard of both this release and that record label so I can only guess why there is seven years between their first and second release, but what does it matter when you manage to deliver such a great new record as the band just did? Exactly, nothing! Because “Barcelona” is an amazing mini-album on perhaps my favorite vinyl format, 10”! Especially the A-side of this transparent red piece of wax is killer with three brickwall, hard as nails Catalonian Oi! tracks with lots of metallic guitars and solos. This is the type of sound you can wake me up in the middle of the night for and is one of the better A sides that has been released on a 10” so far this year and worth buying it alone! But also on the B side are three tracks (which makes a total of six, in case you can’t count) with two of their own, “Mi Única Ley” and “Sr. Pulido”, that are a bit more upbeat and slightly different guitar work than “Barcelona”, “Mantente Firme” and “De Ti Y De Mí” on the flipside. Not bad at all, but I prefer the first half of this release. The final track, a Catalonian version of Condemned 84’s “Face The Aggression” called “¿Donde Coño Está El Porrón?” makes up for it though. Great version of this classic track with again awesome guitarwork. This 10” is limited and hand numbered to 320 copies, 160 of them come on transparent red vinyl and the other 160 copies come on transparent blue vinyl and it’s an absolute killer! If you liked their songs on the “Chaos In Catalonia” compilation or bands like Ultimo Asalto or Alta Tension, you will love this record!
